Summary

The Health Survey for England (HSE) 2010 was the twentieth in the series of annual surveys conducted in private households since 1994. The primary focus of the 2010 survey was respiratory health and lung function and the impact of respiratory symptoms and asthma on adults' and children’s daily lives.

The questionnaire included modules of questions on general health, alcohol consumption, smoking, fruit and vegetable consumption, contraception and sexual health, respiratory health, kidney disease, and dental health. The survey also provided the following objective measures of health: blood pressure, anthropometric measurements, spirometry, and analysis of saliva, urine, and blood samples.

A total of 8,420 adults and 5,692 children were successfully interviewed. Nurse visits were conducted among 5,587 adults and 1,327 children to collect measurements and ask additional questions.
