Summary

In 1997, a survey program was initiated to analyze the impact of the DISH project in Uganda. The program consisted of the 1997 household and health facility surveys, the 1999 household and health facility surveys, and the 2002 facility survey.

The initial sample for the 1997 household survey was selected from the 1995 DHS enumeration areas so that results from the two surveys would be comparable and the 1995 DHS could serve as a baseline. The questionnaires were also modeled on the DHS forms. 1,697 women age 15-49 and 900 men age 15-54 were interviewed through the household survey. The facility survey was administered to 173 health facilities, and small private clinics, pharmacies, and drug stores were not included. The household questionnaire covered household demographics, education, family planning, fertility, and sexual behaviors.
