Summary

The Sierra Leone Malaria Indicator Survey (MIS) 2016 is part of phase 7 of the Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) program. MIS surveys are designed to provide information on the prevalence of malaria in children and the knowledge and practice of malaria prevention. The 2016 Sierra Leone MIS survey design incorporated the data collection guidelines set forth by the Roll Back Malaria Monitoring and Evaluation Working Group (RBM-MERG). For the 2016 Sierra Leone MIS, 8,501 women ages 15-49 from 6,719 households were successfully interviewed. Additionally, blood smear parasitemia and finger/heal prick rapid diagnostic blood tests were conducted for the presence of anemia and malaria in children under 5.
