Summary

Nigeria was part of the MCSS series carried out in 61 countries in 2000 and 2001. The study was an exercise in developing research instruments for assessing the health of individuals, adult mortality, health system responsiveness, and household health care expenditures.

The survey sample was not nationally representative due to the size of the country and language barriers. The survey was carried out in all Yoruba speaking regions of the Ibadan, Iseyin, Ido, and Ogo of Oyo state. The Nigeria MCSS included only a household survey portion. The sample included a selection of two rural (Ido and Ogo Oluwa), one semi-urban (Iseyin), and two urban (Ibadan) local government areas. The total sample size was 5,047 with 61.4% females and 38.6% males enumerated. The response rate was 98%.
