Summary

The 2013 Madagascar Malaria Indicator Survey included 8,574 households. All women between the age of 15 and 49 years were eligible for enumeration and children between the age of 6 and 59 months were eligible for malaria and anemia blood tests.

A total of 8,045 women were enumerated, and the individual response rate was 98.7%. A total of 5,568 children were included in the survey. Two questionnaires were used, one for the household and one for women. Data collection was done using tablet PCs.

Three health districts and all municipalities located at an altitude higher than 1,500 meters without malaria transmission were excluded from the sampling frame. The study is representative of areas where malaria transmission is present.
