Summary

In 2003 the Jordan Ministry of Health, along with other local groups, conducted a study to determine the prevalence of reproductive tract infections and STDs in the country, the etiological agents of the infections, and the validity of clinical diagnoses. A convenience sample of 991 women of reproductive age with complaint of vaginal discharge and 221 asymptomatic women participated in the study. The women were seeking care at one of three Ministry of Health hospitals: El Basheer Hospital in Amman, Prince Faisal Hospital in Yajouz, and El Zarqa Hospital in Zarqa. The study consisted of interviews and risk assessment, a physical examination, and RTI and STD testing.
