Summary

The German Health Interview and Examination Survey (DEGS1) is a continuation of the Bundes-Gesundheitssurvey 1998 (BGS98), which was carried out from 1997-1999. DEGS1 had 8,152 participants ages 18-79, approximately half of whom also participated in BGS98. Additional participants were chosen based on two-stage stratified random sampling from local population registries.

Topics covered by the survey include health status, health-related behavior, living conditions, and health care. Survey instruments include a self-administered food frequency questionnaire, blood and urine samples, standardized measurements and physical performance tests, and a physician-administered interview.
