Summary 

The 1994-1995 HIES was conducted in 23 cities: Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, Manizales, Pasto, Cartagena, Cúcuta, Neiva, Pereira, Montería, Villavicencio, Tunja, Quibdó, Popayán, Ibagué, Valledupar, Sincelejo, Riohacha, Florencia, Santa Marta y Armenia. Areas not surveyed included those that were remote or inaccessible, rural, or areas in conflict. 

The sample size was 36,816 houses. Data were gathered on household demographics, housing, employment, and detailed income and expeditures for households and individuals. This information was gathered via four questionnaires including a household form with questions on employment and income for members over the age of 12, a daily household expenditure week-long diary, a form on less frequent purchases, and a form for personal daily expenses that were separate from household expenses.
